Hyderabad: Hyderabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar warned of invoking the PD Act against private moneylenders who are forcing people to sell their properties to clear loans offered at high interest rates.

“Money lending without a licence is a crime. If you harass people or use force to collect exorbitant interest, we will not spare you. We will book strict cases and may invoke PD Act,” warned Hyderabad CP, VC Sajjanar.

He said that during his visit to the Old City for the ‘Meet Your CP’ programme, several people approached him and complained about harassment by private financiers.

“If you are facing any harassment, don’t be scared. Call 100 or visit the nearest police station immediately,” Sajjanar advised.

Tenants warned:

The Commissioner also warned tenants who are found harassing landlords, particularly senior citizens.

“Some tenants are specifically targeting elderly couples and threatening landlords by claiming ownership and attempting land grabbing. If you believe this is merely a civil dispute, you are mistaken.

The moment you intimidate a landlord or attempt to usurp their property, it becomes a serious criminal offence,” said Sajjanar, warning of strict action against anyone who tries to occupy property.
