Hyderabad: Rich tributes were paid to Mir Osman Ali Khan Bahadur, the seventh Nizam, on his 59th death anniversary on Tuesday.

Several people, including Nawab Najaf Ali Khan, the grandson of Mir Osman Ali Khan, visited Masjid-e-Jodi at King Kothi and paid floral tributes at the grave. Students of Osmania University, heritage activists and scholars also offered floral tributes.

Nawab Najaf Ali Khan recalled the contributions of Osman Ali Khan during his rule in the State of Hyderabad. However, he expressed displeasure over the government failing to hold an official programme.

“While discussions occasionally take place in the Telangana Legislative Assembly regarding his (Seventh Nizam) contributions, no concrete steps have been taken to formally honour his memory,” said Nawab Najaf Ali Khan.

He said that under the leadership of the seventh Nizam, the Hyderabad State witnessed remarkable development in healthcare, education, infrastructure, irrigation and public welfare. Many institutions established during his reign remain functional and continue to serve the common people even today.
