Mancherial: Continuing the crackdown on the BRS in the wake of the stalemate over the Kyathanpalli municipal chairperson elections, the police on Wednesday arrested BRS district president Balka Suman from his residence on charges of unlawful assembly, rioting and obstructing the duties of a Sub-Inspector.
Suman was taken into custody and shifted to Srirampur police station even as several BRS activists from various parts of the district gathered at his residence and tried to prevent the arrest. He is likely to be produced before a court in the Mancherial district centre by evening.
Large contingents of police, led by Bellampalli ACP Ravi Kumar and Mandamarri Inspector Shashidhar Reddy, reached the former MLA’s residence and arrested him though party activists tried to prevent them from taking him away.
Suman picked up an argument with the police officials for arresting him without serving prior notice. He expressed displeasure over the ‘over enthusiasm’ shown by the police, who had to jostle with BRS activists.
Earlier in the day, former councillor Domakonda Anil from Chennur was arrested in connection with the same case, which was booked on Tuesday night, holding Suman and six other leaders responsible for alleged unlawful assembly, rioting, causing grievous hurt and disobedience of an order when Labour Minister Dr G Vivek and Peddapalli MP G Vamshikrishna were on their way to attend a special meeting to elect the chairperson of Kyathanpalli municipality.
