Harish Rao criticises Congress-BJP nexus in Telangana municipal polls

Hyderabad: BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao slammed both the Congress and the BJP, accusing them of forging unholy and immoral post-poll arrangements in several Telangana municipalities to prevent the BRS from assuming power. He stated that the two national parties abandoned ideological and political differences to join hands solely to stop the BRS.

“The outcome in towns like Aliabad, Amangal, Medak and Narsapur exposed the bond between the Congress and the BJP. Is this the change that the Congress promised?” he asked. He stated that both the parties called BRS as the B-team of the other party, but eventually they proved to be on the same team.

Taking to X, Harish Rao questioned Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, whether the State was being run by the Congress independently or in tacit coordination with the BJP and the TDP. He said despite projecting themselves as political adversaries at the national level, the Congress and BJP were cooperating on the ground in Telangana by sharing key municipal posts.

Citing examples, he said that in Narsapur Municipality, the Congress secured the chairman’s post while the BJP took the vice-chairman position. In Sirpur Kaghaznagar, where the BRS won a majority of wards, the Congress and BJP joined hands to hijack power. Similar arrangements were alleged in Aliabad, Metpally and Amangal.

The BRSLP deputy leader also accused the two parties of manipulating administrative machinery and intimidating councillors in municipalities such as Kyathanapally, Thorrur, Jangaon and Zaheerabad, where the BRS had secured a majority of seats. He stated that positions of chairman and vice-chairman were being shared between the Congress and BJP despite the public mandate favouring the BRS.

Targeting the Congress national leadership directly, he pointed to contradictions between the Congress’s national stance against the BJP and its actions in Telangana. “While Rahul Gandhi claims to be fighting against the BJP, Revanth Reddy was allying with the same BJP in Telangana. He said while Rahul Gandhi calls for safeguarding the Constitution, Revanth Reddy was inclined to suppress it completely,” he added.

Taking the attack to the BJP, Harish Rao questioned union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, whether their party’s alleged cooperation with the Congress at the local level, was being done with their blessings. He stated that the BJP which raises slogans of “Congress Mukht Bharat” at national level, was striving for “Congress Yukht BJP” in Telangana.

“Unable to face BRS individually, both the national parties have teamed up in the State. But the people of Telangana as well as the country, are observing these immoral alliances and would respond appropriately in the future,” he remarked.
