Nalgonda: History was created in Chityala municipality of Nalgonda district after a transgender woman won from Ward One in the municipal elections, marking a significant moment in local body politics.

Promoting social change, voters in Ward One elected N Sudhakar, a transgender woman, with a lead of over 100 votes, reports said.


Chityala municipality has 12 wards. Of these, the Congress won nine wards while the Bharat Rashtra Samithi secured two. The transgender woman contested as an Independent candidate from Ward One.

Sudhakar defeated candidates representing major political parties. Election officials handed over the result certificate to the candidate.

Thanking the voters for her election, Sudhakar assured that she would ensure the development of the ward in Chityala municipality, reports said.

Though the Congress emerged victorious in nine wards, BRS candidates put up a tough fight in a few. The victory margin was narrow in some wards. For instance, in Ward Six, the Congress candidate polled 455 votes while the BRS candidate secured 418 votes, reports added.
