Banished rowdy sheeter creates ruckus in old city

Hyderabad: A rowdy sheeter, making a mockery of the banishment invoked against him, entered the city and, along with a gang, attacked and injured a man at Kalapather and vandalised a provisional store on Wednesday night.

Identified as Mohd Asaduddin alias Asad, against whom a rowdy sheet is maintained at Kalapather police station in the Rajendranagar zone, he and his ten associates came to Siddiq General Store at Kalapather. “They were armed with weapons such as sickles and knives and attacked my brother Khurram and damaged the articles in the store, apart from looting the money,” Siddiq told media persons.

The attack, which took place around 8.35 pm, was captured on surveillance cameras installed around the shop premises. In the video, weapon-wielding gang members were seen attacking a man and damaging two-wheelers and articles at the shop. Before the police reached the spot, they had fled. The police personnel were seen using lathis on the crowd that had gathered around.

It is learnt that another rowdy sheeter, Ashwaq, was standing at the shop a few minutes before the attack. It is suspected that the gang had conspired to attack Ashwaq and, noticing that he had left the place, attacked Khurram and damaged the shop of Siddiq, who is also a witness in a murder case allegedly committed by Asad last year.

In September, the then Hyderabad Police Chief had issued orders banishing Asad from the city, as he is involved in 11 cases, including a murder case. A few months before the order was issued, Asad, along with several associates, was arrested for murder and rioting in the Shahalibanda police station area.

When contacted, a senior official of the Hyderabad Police said special teams were constituted to nab those involved in the attack. The Task Force was also roped in to nab the suspects.
