Nizamabad: Police apprehended two persons for allegedly attempting to cast bogus votes at two different polling centres in Bodhan municipality on Wednesday.
The duo was nabbed at polling booth number 24 in Rakasipet and booth number 78 in the Goshala area of the municipality. Officials caught them after they allegedly produced fake identification cards during verification before casting their votes.
Polling agents and staff grew suspicious and alerted the police. During questioning and verification of their credentials, the two reportedly admitted that they had attempted to cast bogus votes. Cases were registered against them for violation of election rules. Police warned that strict action would be initiated against those indulging in such offences.
In a separate incident, police seized Rs. 1 lakh near a polling centre in the 22nd ward of Jayashankar Bhupalpally town. Tension prevailed at the centre after leaders from two parties accused each other of attempting to distribute money to voters.
