Mild tension at Puranipet polling station in Jagtial after clash between candidates’ supporters

Jagtial: Mild tension prevailed at the Puranipet polling station here on Wednesday when supporters of two Independent candidates clashed with each other.

Family members of Independent candidate Veerabathini Padmaja entered into an argument with Puli Sridhar, son of independent candidate Puli Rama, alleging that he was speaking to others over the phone to facilitate fake voting.

They allegedly snatched the phone from Sridhar and handed it over to the police. Upset over the incident, Sridhar broke down.

In another incident, a jostle took place between two groups when one of them attempted to speak to voters. BRS and MIM activists arrived at the polling station in the 31st ward wearing scarves in colours similar to their party flags.

Trouble began when one group tried to interact with voters, following which others present at the spot intervened and pacified the clashing groups.
