YMCA Hyderabad clinch thrilling basketball win over Devraj

Hyderabad: YMCA Hyderabad scored a thrilling 67-61 win over Devraj after trailing 29-35 at half time in the 6th Samuel Vasanth Kumar Memorial Basketball Tournament conducted by the Sports Writers Association of Telangana (SWAT) at YMCA Secunderabad.

Devraj started well with Amit, Suraj and Tribhuvan combining to score 19 points with three 3-pointers. However, Sumith of YMCA Hyderabad fought a lone battle, scoring 10 of the 15 points for his team as Devraj led 19-15 at the end of the first quarter.


In the second quarter, Devraj continued the same rhythm, scoring 16 points with Tribhuvan using his height well to score from the paint. Agni joined the scoring for YMCA with 14 points, but Devraj still led 35-29 at half time.

After the change of ends, YMCA tightened its defense, stopping Devraj’s outside shooting and restricting them to just six points. Playing a fast-paced game, YMCA scored 18 points through Krish and Bala to take a decisive 47-41 lead at the end of the third quarter.

In the last quarter, Devraj was unable to stop Krish, who scored 10 consecutive points, while Gattu chipped in with timely free throws. Devraj tried to catch up through Arief, who scored nine points in the final quarter, but YMCA held on to win 67-61.

Mr CA Govada Giridhar, FCA, Proprietor, M/s Giridhar & Co, inaugurated the event in the presence of Ruth Vasantha, wife of late Samuel Vasanth Kumar.

The scores: YMCA Hyderabad 67 (Krish 22, Sumith 18) bt Devraj 61 (Tribhuvan 16, Amit 12, Suraj 10).
