Mantralayam tense, TDP candidate, ASI injured in shooting

Kurnool, March 16 (NSS)Tension gripped Mantralayam mandal in the district when the gunman of TDP candidate Tikka Reddy opened fire in the air to scare away YSRCP. However, Tikka Reddy and an assistant police sub-inspector were injured accidentally in the incident, which occurred in Kaggalu village in Mantralayam mandal on Saturday.
Tikka Reddy, TDP candidate from Mantralayam constituency, who campaigned in several villages reached Kaggalu village, a stronghold of YSRCP, to start campaigning by hoisting TDP flag. At the same time, YSRCP candidate Balanagri Reddy’s wife Jayamma and his son Pradeep Reddy, accompanied by their supporters in the village came to the spot and tried to obstruct the TDP candidate’s campaign. Supporters of both the candidates exchanged blows.
Anticipating trouble from YSRCP activists, Tikka Reddy’s gunman fired 10 rounds into the air to scare away them. However, Tikka Reddy and an assistant police sub-inspector suffered bullet injuries accidentally. While Tikka Reddy suffered injury in his left leg, ASI Venugopal got injured on his right leg. Situation remained tense in the village and police authorities deployed more force in the village as a precautionary measure.
