Hyderabad: Nearly two lakh white ration card holders who did not avail their monthly ration for three months before April, started receiving the one-time financial assistance announced by the State government to help white ration card holders during lockdown period. The financial assistance of Rs 3,000 for months of April and May, is being deposited into the bank accounts of beneficiaries or distributing through post offices.
The State government recently decided to cancel the payment of Rs 1,500 one-time financial assistance to the white ration card holders who did not draw the free 12 kg rice from ration shops in the three months from January to March. However, the Telangana High Court recently directed the State to provide financial assistance to all white ration card holders, even if they had or had not procured the free rice in the previous three months.
Following the High Court orders, Telangana State Civil Supplies Corporation started depositing the amount into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries or through post offices. About 2.08 lakh white ration card holders who did not avail their ration for three months (January to March), will receive Rs 3,000 towards financial assistance for the months of April and May. The Corporation released Rs 62.4 crore in this regard and started depositing the amount.
The State government deposited about Rs 2,227 crore into the bank accounts of over 74 lakh white ration card holders and provided around Rs 158.24 crore to more than 5.2 lakh white ration card holders through post offices during lockdown period in April and May.
