After months of dilly-dallying over forming an alliance for the Lok Sabha elections, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Monday said the party was willing to give four out of seven seats to the Aam Aadmi Party.
An alliance between the Congress & AAP in Delhi would mean the rout of the BJP. The Congress is willing to give up 4 Delhi seats to the AAP to ensure this.
But, Mr Kejriwal has done yet another U turn!
Our doors are still open, but the clock is running out.
Alliance talks between AAP and Congress have been on for several months, but talks finally broke down when AAP said the party was ready to form an alliance with the Congress in Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh, but it would not agree for a tie-up just in the national capital.
Congress in-charge for Delhi PC Chacko, however, has made it clear that the party was open for a coalition only in Delhi. Last week, AAP and Jannayak Janata Party announced an alliance in Haryana, where AAP will contest on three seats and JJP on seven.
Reacting to Gandhi’s tweet, Kejriwal accused the Congress of trying to help Prime Minister Narendra Modi by diving the anti-BJP votes and said the party was not serious about having a truck with AAP.
“What U-turn. The talks are still on. Your tweet shows alliance with us is not your wish but only a showoff. I am pained to see you making such statements. Today the country needs to be protected from the Modi-Shah duo. Its unfortunate that like in UP and other states, you are just trying to help Modi by dividing anti-Modi votes,” he said.
While BJP is yet to name its candidates for Delhi, AAP has declared names of all seven nominees. They are Atishi (East), Dilip Pandey (Northeast), Gugan Singh Ranga (Northwest), Brijesh Goyal (New Delhi), Raghav Chadha (South) and Pankaj Gupta (Chandni Chowk) and Balbir Singh Jakhar (West Delhi). Congress, last week, cleared names of four of its Lok Sabha candidates in Delhi.
